Congratulations to California Technology Award Winners!

The Government Technology Conference (GTC) is an annual event held in downtown Sacramento to showcase all of the great work California IT professionals are doing to help improve government operations. Each year, the California Technology Agency partners with the Center for Digital Government to honor the most innovative and hardworking state officials for their many contributions. This year, I am thrilled to honor Assembly Member Joan Buchanan who is being given the Innovation and Vision in Government Award for her leadership and dedication. She is a true technology champion, bringing important technology– related issues to the forefront of California government while inspiring other leaders in the State Capitol on ways we can use technology to better serve the people of our state.

Also being honored with the Innovation and Vision in Government Award are Office of Systems Integration Director Paul Benedetto and Natural Resources Agency Chief Information Officer (CIO) Tim Garza. Paul is a problem solver and fosters collaboration. In fact, he is the poster child of what we at the Technology Agency are looking for in an IT leader and partner. Tim is able to win people over with his positive vision, he sees opportunities where others see hurdles. He knows how to get things done and has the track record to prove it. They have both shown great leadership within their organizations and across the Executive Branch as we work to modernize and consolidate IT.

Franchise Tax Board CIO Cathy Cleek received a Best of California Award for Demonstrated Leadership in Management of Information Technology. Serving as CIO since 2005, Cathy develops IT policy and sets the agency’s vision and strategic direction for its use of technology. Among her many accomplishments, she has leveraged Enterprise Architecture throughout her organization to drive decisions and cut costs.

I would also like to acknowledge 38 state employees who are being honored for Outstanding IT Service and Support in state government. These individuals were nominated by their department or agency CIO for their terrific work. Please join me in congratulating them for doing an outstanding job!
